We buy four fabrics every year and cut the same short collection from them: a wool coating from Yorkshire, a Portuguese jersey, an Irish linen, and a Japanese denim we have used since the shop opened. Nothing is seasonal, which is the whole point \u2014 a size that fits this year still fits next year, because we restock rather than replace.<\/p>\n

Made in runs of a few hundred<\/h2>\n

Everything is made in two workshops, one in Porto and one forty minutes from here. Small runs cost more per piece than a container does, and they buy two things worth more than the difference: we can correct a fit between runs, and we are not left with three thousand of something nobody wanted.<\/p>\n

The trade-off is honest and worth stating plainly. Pieces sell out, and a restock takes six to ten weeks. If something has gone in your size, ask \u2014 we keep a list and write to the people on it before the stock goes live.<\/p>\n

Repaired rather than replaced<\/h2>\n

Every seam we sell is one we can open again. Repairs on anything bought here are free for the first two years and charged at cost afterwards: a relined pocket, a re-set button, a coat re-hemmed after it has been shortened once already. Bring it in on a Saturday, or post it and we will post it back.<\/p>\n

A garment that can be repaired is worth buying once. One that cannot is rented, at a price that only looks like a purchase.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Where the price goes<\/h2>\n

We publish what a piece costs to make on each product page, because a price without one is a claim rather than a fact. It covers cloth, cutting, sewing, trims and the workshop own margin.
