It should name the service, clinician where applicable, branch, date and time. Check whether the time shown is the arrival time or the start of the consultation. If any detail differs from what you expected, ask the booking team before you travel.

A first consultation, a follow-up and a diagnostic procedure are different appointment types. They may take different lengths of time and may be charged separately. If you are unsure what has been arranged, ask for the scope of the visit to be explained in plain language.

Bring the information requested

The clinic may ask for identification, a referral, previous correspondence or existing reports. Bring the items listed in your confirmation rather than sending a complete medical history through a general website form. If documents need to be shared in advance, ask the provider for its appropriate secure process.

A short list of the questions you want to discuss can help organise the conversation. If there are several topics, identify the most important one first. Let the clinician know if you need an explanation repeated or written down.

Access and communication

Tell the booking team about access or communication needs while the appointment is being arranged. Ask specifically about the branch you will attend. Buildings, consultation rooms and available support can differ between sites, even within the same organisation.

If you plan to bring an interpreter, parent, carer or support person, confirm the clinic’s arrangements first. A real provider should explain its approach to consent, confidentiality and the involvement of accompanying adults.

Preparation instructions

Some separately booked investigations have their own instructions. Use the information issued by the provider for that specific appointment. If instructions are missing, conflicting or difficult to understand, contact the clinical team before attending.

This demo does not tell you to change medication, food or drink routines. Any such instruction must come from the professional responsible for your actual care. A general visitor checklist cannot replace procedure-specific advice.

At the end of the consultation

Before the visit finishes, check that you understand the proposed next step. Ask whether a report or letter will be sent, who will receive it and how any further appointment is arranged. If a separate service is suggested, ask about its purpose and fee before agreeing to proceed.

It is reasonable to ask who handles administrative questions after the appointment. Keep the contact route supplied by the provider, particularly if another branch or external service will be involved.

Changing a booking

Use the contact details in your real confirmation if you need to rearrange or cancel. Give the appointment date and service so the team can find the correct booking. Ask about the notice period, any applicable charge and when a replacement appointment will be confirmed.

The appointment selector on this demonstration does not create a booking and stores no personal details. Changing its selection affects only the on-screen summary.

Before you leave home

Confirm the service and branch.

Check the arrival time.

Bring the documents requested.

Keep the branch contact details available.

Confirm any access or communication support.

Branch directoryFees and appointment types

Visitor information Preparing foryour appointment.
