A sunlit living space with a leather sofa, pale seating and plants

A room organised around the shared table.

Arrival, seating and service routes are considered as one composition. The study makes space for a quiet conversation and a larger gathering to coexist.

Timber, tactile upholstery and muted mineral finishes balance the scale of the room. Maintenance and replaceable elements form part of the material brief.

The anatomy of a considered space.

Circulation

Furniture groups create smaller places within the larger plan. Light brings each table into focus, while storage supports the room from its quieter edges.

Layered light

Daylight, working light and a softer evening layer are coordinated with furniture and controls.

Material junctions

Edges, grain and adjoining finishes are resolved together. Approved samples travel with the specification.

A shared table needs a useful perimeter.

Two decisions to revisit when translating this concept into a real project.

    Arrival without interruption

Trace the route from the entrance to seating, storage and service positions. A busy room benefits from routes that do not cross every conversation.

Care as part of the material direction

Compare upholstery cleaning, timber maintenance and access for replacement. A welcoming finish also needs to withstand the way the room will be used.
