Hollow gold is not a shortcut, it is the only way to make a large hoop wearable. The tube is drawn in the workshop and the seam is on the inside where it cannot be seen or felt.
Hinged closure with a click you can hear, because a hoop that has to be squeezed shut eventually is not.
