About the appointment
Family appointments can involve more than one person and often need a little planning. When arranging a visit, explain who the appointment is for, the type of service requested and whether a parent, carer or support person will attend. The booking team can then explain the clinic’s requirements for consent, identification and accompanying adults.
During the visit
The clinician will direct the consultation to the person receiving care while allowing space for relevant information from a parent or carer. If there are several concerns to discuss, it helps to identify them at the beginning. Appointments for different family members should be booked individually unless the clinic has specifically arranged a joint visit.
Before you attend
Check the branch location, arrival arrangements and any age-related booking requirements before travelling. Bring the documents requested in your confirmation. Let the team know in advance if you require step-free access, an interpreter or additional time to communicate. These arrangements should be confirmed directly rather than assumed from a website photograph.
After the consultation
Ask which information will be sent after the consultation and who may receive it. A real clinic should explain its consent and confidentiality arrangements for children, young people and adults who attend with another person.
